Book Review – Catherine Cronin in Postdigital Science and Education

This review situates the book in a broader cultural and educational context. It has some fair criticisms (including the potential that some of the cultural references contained in the book might not be universal) but it felt to me that she read the book I was trying to write.

“the personality and immediacy of the writing will be just what makes the book a joy to read for many. It felt at times like listening to rather than reading the words of a storyteller. Overall, I think the book has power as an avenue to help many people, of all ages, to better contextualise the rapid changes in the global information landscape of the past quarter century. The book, hopefully, will inspire others to tell their different but also personal stories about change and the future.” (Cronin, 2024)

BELONGING PART 2: BELONGING AND INFORMATION ABUNDANCE Clarissa Sorensen-Unruh

You know that feeling when all of your neurons seem to be firing at once? That’s how I felt throughout reading and after finishing Dave Cormier’s excellent book Learning in the Time of Abundance: Community is the Curriculum. It’s like my unconscious mind had been spinning on a dual-part question – why is everything so much harder than it used to be and how do I balance it all? – that I hadn’t quite formed, let alone found an answer to, and Dave’s book helped me normalize the question and *maybe* find an iota of peace in the uncertainty and changing nature of the answer (?!?!?). https://clarissasorensenunruh.com/2024/03/11/belonging-part-2-belonging-and-information-abundance/

Q&A with Dave Cormier on his fascinating new book. John Warner – Inside Higher Education

“I didn’t quite know what to expect when I picked up Dave Cormier’s Learning in a Time of Abundance: The Community Is the Curriculum. I knew Cormier’s work from his prolific blogging and focus on the intersection of technology and learning, but I didn’t know what to make of the intersection of “abundance” and “community” and how these two principles would combine. What I experienced is one of the most provocative books on pedagogy I’ve read in a long time. I asked Dave if he’d answer some of my questions.”

Dave Cormier, Musk, and Climate Change: A review of “Learning in a Time of Abundance”.

Read it here

“Let’s start with Cormier’s Book. I’m oversimplifying his arguments, but essentially he argues (very well) that we are living in a time of information abundance. This means that it can seem that we are faced with an overwhelming volume of information that transcends our ability to thoroughly scrutinize it. Cormier’s book is an attempt to equip us with the knowledge to navigate learning in our digital society, in uncertain times, and a time when some people use information as a weapon, his book is a guide to deciphering truth in a time when information is growing exponentially. “

“Gettin’ Air with Dave Cormier. Learning in a Time of Abundance is the result of decades of Dave’s thinking, hundreds of blog posts, and endless conversations. With this book, Dave takes us on a journey to the centre of learning, with many interesting stops along the way, most of them unexpected. The Beaver Hating Online Community is represented, for example. In this episode, Dave tells us the story of bringing this book to life. Spoiler alert: It’s must read material.”
